Coconut Water As Effective As Statin Drugs

19-entry

It turns out that there is a dirty little secret that the Statin Drug Industry doesn’t want you to know; pure coconut water has the same effect as expensive prescribed Statin drugs (not to mention the other health benefits associated with this delicious drink).

In December 2008 a paper by V. G. Sandhya and T. Rajamohan was published entitled Comparative evaluation of the hypolipidemic effects of coconut water and lovastatin in rats fed fat-cholesterol enriched diet.  In this study, two groups of rats were examined for 45 days.  One group was given coconut water on top of a fat-cholesterol enriched diet, and the other group was given a Statin drug called lovastatin on top of this fat-cholesterol enriched diet.  They concluded “Coconut water has lipid lowering effect similar to the drug lovastatin in rats fed fat-cholesterol enriched diet.”

Unfortunately, many studies like this one will never reach the level of a human clinical trial, which is needed to gain FDA approval.  Why?  Because as powerful a natural medicine as coconut water may be, it is not patentable and therefore not profitable for any drug company investment.

The fact that natural coconut water is at the very least as effective as a $25 billion industry’s prescription drug (which can have potentially fatal side effects) should be enough to put up red flags; there is a problem here.  The problem is that drug companies pretend, and consumers believe, that synthetic patentable chemical medicines are superior to natural ones, and it is therefore acceptable for them to be sold at incredibly high cost.  As we briefly mentioned earlier, not only are these synthetic chemicals marked up in price, but they can also be extremely dangerous too.  Side effects include:

  • Changes in liver function
  • Muscular Myopathy: Muscle pain, weakness, or tenderness can lead to a very dangerous condition, called “rhabdomyolysis” which can be fatal
  • Changes in memory, attention, or concentration
  • Depression and irritability
  • Pain: Headaches, joint pains, and abdominal pain as well as the muscle pain discussed above
  • Peripheral Neuropathy: Tingling and numbness or burning pain which can be felt anywhere on the body
  • Sleep problems
  • Problems with sexual function
  • Fatigue
  • Dizziness
  • A sense of detachment
  • Swelling
  • Shortness of breath
  • Vision changes
  • Changes in temperature regulation
  • Weight change
  • Hunger
  • Breast enlargement
  • Blood sugar changes
  • Dry skin
  • Rashes
  • Blood pressure changes
  • Nausea
  • Upset stomach
  • Bleeding
  • Ringing or other noises in ears

We’re not telling you to simply stop taking all your Statin drugs and start drinking coconut water instead.  What we’re suggesting is that you think about what you’ve read here today; consider the idea that the chemical medications doctors prescribe are not always better at maintaining health than the food items that exist in this world naturally.  Become aware, consult a naturopath, and open your mind to alternative possibilities.
